GoogleMeme?

Wow. Has Techmeme become GoogleMeme? It seems that as soon anyone writes about Google, then everyone does – then the whole of Techmeme is ‘ALLABOUTGOOGLE’.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Google released something and then NOBODY wrote about it on their blogs etc – then they might not be so powerful 😉 As it seems that people are very concerned about Google’s power. Don’t they realise that those people who do write about them ARE the ones giving them power? heh.

podcast.com LIVES!

While sat here at OPML Camp, I just tore down the login page to PODCAST.COM so you can all come in and have a look. There is still ALOT of work to do and much of it is not complete yet. But you should get the idea.

One of the main things we'll add soon is a decent feedback mechanism fo you to tell us what you thing. Please read the 'develupdates' and 'more info' links to find a brief explanation of where we're at.

Early days – exciting times!! 🙂

here's basically what we want to do :

SYO Expansion

Well, it looks like things are going well for DanMac and Dave on the SYO project. Things are moving on.

Good for them. 😉
Maybe if things between Dave and I had been different, well, maybe things would be *different*. 😉 SYO shares among other things like OPML and RSS, some similarities to the core of the podcast.com / treedia system, I've been developing (on my own) since back in November.

I'm just putting some finishing touches to the search facility here, then I hope to able to reveal more at the OPML Camp which starts in a few hours.

It's a shame that CCTV (Cambridge Community TV) aren't involved, or we could stream a video of the event to you all, and through to the Second Life Berkman Center video screen. Hmm , maybe they are? I don't know, but they did a grand job at the Beyond Broadcast event last week.

OPML Camp this weekend

Yes, I’m over here in Cambridge, MA for the OPML Camp taking place this weekend at the Berkman Center in Austin Hall. Looking forward to seeing what others turn up and finding out about some cool stuff.

http://www.opmlcamp.org

I got hold of a new MacBookPro while here. Very nice and fast. (And runs Second Life much better than others PCs I have – for now)

I tried installing an OPML Editor to it, but the docs seems to be out of date. I heard about a fresh Mac installer a while ago but I can;t seem to find it anywhere. Anyone have any pointers?

The version I tried to install from a fresh download (on Windows too) just won;t update to the latest version. It complains the the ‘updateTool’ has not been defined. Seems odd.

I’ve been uber busy since being here since last weekend for the Beyond Broadcast event, set up by Jake Shapiro from PRX/Berkman. What a great time that was. Geat set of people there.

Again, the lack of a working OPML Editor stopped me blogging (as easily as I would like) about it. I need help!!

Test

Can I do an iframe here? Via the OPML Editor…

No – is the answer – shame. Is this ony on the hosted version though I wonder. Hmm.

I’ve been building a blogging tool recently which is going to take over all my blogging and podcasting duties. 😉 It’s sliiiick.

Koz Komik #1

Komik #1

Just playing around with the new MacMini and the ComicLife application. Fun! I like it!

There used to be a comic app I used to play with years ago, but you couldn’t add photos as easily back then (or take them digitally, come to think of it!) – hours of fun. The old Microsoft ComicChat was fun too. Whatever happened to that?

More of this nonsense to come. I bet someone has already written an online verison of this which automatically pulls in images from flickr based on the words in the panels???

I’ve decided to get a Mac

Yes folks, now that the Mac will support booting into Windows and Mac OSX, I’m going to get myself a Mac with the dual Intel processors!

As a designer and a programmer of websites for people who have the choice, I have to be able to test out functionality on all desktop systems (within reason). Also ,as a programmer of websites in various scripting languages, I need to be able to build systems and scripts, which will run on the target server – usually a Linux box.

So, having the opportunity to switch/boot back and forth and get the best of both (all) worlds is a “createc’s dream”. I’m looking forward to using apps on OS X which are suited to the job, like video editing. Photoshop, Flash and Director make no difference to me, as they run the same on both, more or less (given a few speed differences on start up). I’m looking forward to trying out Front Row, and developing some video podcast channels for that. I’m looking forward to building and compiling cool Unix based stuff in Mac OS X Darwin – apart from a few things, it’s just the same as being on the command line on my remote Linux box.

Lots and lots of things to do. I have heard that Windows running on these things is ‘the fastest I’ve ever seen Windows run’. I quite like the Mac OS X interface, but I have been a Windows user for so long, I get annoyed with the way that Apple do some things. It’s really not that intuitive, imho.

Now, the question is : Which one to get? I think it’s going to be one of the laptops. But I bet they’ll release a wider MacBook Pro, just as I buy the 15 incher. Also, the idea of having a MacMini sit above a cupboard acting as my home server / gateway is very attractive. It will depend on the noise levels. Also the 20 inch iMac is great value, but isn’t a versatile with where I can put it.

So, probably the super-duper-pumped-and-jacked MacBook Pro. I can’t wait! But, I’m going to have to, as Easter is upon us and we’re off to Bonny Scotland to se the Doc’s family. Heh. They have wifi now, so I’ll still be able to get a fix online 😉 [and do some more WORK!]
