Oh really, Vero?

Randomly last night I was thinking about if anyone was still trying to create any new social networks (I had a go once, in case you didn’t know) and decided it was probably pointless.

Then today I read about something called ‘Vero‘ that apparently has 3m users (up from less than 150k three weeks ago – hmmm) and like others before them, hold up some ‘manifesto’ as to how they’re going to process and protect you and all your info etc. etc. ‘You’re the customer not the product’, etc. etc. Hmmm.

As long as they never, EVER **EVER** take venture capital and survive on a subscription model, it might work. Because otherwise, investors will push and push for ‘growth’ and ‘returns’ and suck the life out of everything. As they always do. (Update: I see the founder is a 39 year-old billionaire. So, no potentially dodgy and ruthless contacts there then? Ahem. Sorry, but people that rich have some extremely unscrupulous ‘friends’ around them.)

Also, I just had a look at their ‘team’ page. A page full of men from the top to the bottom. Apart from the very bottom that is, where the only female member of the team runs ‘customer service’.

Nope. They’re doomed.
